The Climate Of HermanusHermanus has a Mediterranean climate with winter rainfall and dry, sunny summer months. It's seldom too hot or too cold, with the average winter and summer temperatures 14-15 degrees Celsius and 26-28 degrees Celsius respectively. The best months to visit, weather-wise, are from December to end May. Our summer wind blows from the south-east and can become quite pesky at times. It starts picking up force from August on. Though not as strong, it's still around in December and even January, when Hermanus literally bursts at the seams with holidaymakers. February and March are delightful for evenings on the beach. It's a balmy, windless time and just great for sundowners and snacks at some of the little coves. March, April and May is also the time of the famous "champagne air" of Hermanus. While winter gets its fair share of
wild storms (great for cosy fires and red wine), most of the time
the days are mild and sunny. When it rains it's usually for a few
days at a time. During whale season you'll undoubtedly experience some wind - but also some grand days for walking or taking a whale watching cruise.
Here's some visual proof that the weather can get
quite rough ...
